The Cow Bank Project: Empowering Rural Women
Agriculture forms the backbone of livelihood for India's rural population. For many women in these communities, owning a dairy cow is a powerful dream that opens the door to financial stability.
How the Model Works
A single cow, milked just twice a day, provides a sustainable ecosystem for a family:
1. Daily Income & Nutrition: Families secure healthy milk for their own children and sell the surplus to local markets for a steady daily cash flow.
2. Renewable Fuel: Cow dung is processed and utilized as a reliable fuel source for everyday household cooking.
3. Organic Agriculture: The livestock waste serves as nutrient-rich, organic manure to enhance soil health and crop yields.
Our Impact & Proven Success
Between 2013 and 2018, the GHEDS Cow Bank initiative turned dreams into reality for 125 women across 11 villages in the Denkanikottai Taluk.
"Participating beneficiaries have, at a minimum, doubled their daily income. Many have watched their single livestock asset multiply into a small herd, moving them securely toward long-term financial independence."
Looking Ahead
This field-tested project stands as a fully sustainable framework for rural structural transformation. Moving forward, GHEDS is actively organizing resources to scale up and bring renewed life to the Cow Bank program.
